Notes
1) ISYA 1 and 2 resembled most summer schools, with local faculty. ISYA 3 onwards emphasized scientifically developing countries, participants from scientifically isolated sites, with about half or more faculty foreign.
1) UNESCO contributed to ISYA 1 through 20. The ISYA 3 through 19 were designated IAU/UNESCO schools. ICSU contributed, explicitly or via IAU, from ISYA 19 onwards.
2) The ISYA prior to 1992 were organized by Josip Kleczek (Czech Republic), from 1992 till 1997 by Don Wentzel (USA) and Michele Gerbaldi (France), and since then by Michele Gerbaldi (France) and Ed Guinan (USA). Since 2006, ISYA are being organized by Jean-Pierre de Greve (Belgium) and Kam-Ching Leung (USA).
