Spectral and multiwavelength studies of Markarian Galaxies
Principal Investigator: Areg MICKAELIAN
Period: 11.12.2015-10.12.2017
Project Summary
Markarian galaxies have proved to be among the most important objects in extragalactic astronomy for study and solution of many astrophysical problems related to galaxy formation and evolution, radiation at different wavelength ranges from Gamma-ray to radio, and types of activity. Accumulation of multiwavelength (MW) data during the last decade by ground-based and space telescopes provide new opportunities. We propose a project of spectral and MW studies of Markarian galaxies using all available databases to revise their classification and establish homogeneous activity types, MW Spectral Energy Distribution, various relations between the characteristics of objects, extension of Markarian criteria to search for fainter objects in Digitized First Byurakan Survey and Sloan Digital Sky Survey. The Revised and Updated MW Catalogue and Online Database of Markarian galaxies in Vizier (CDS, Strasbourg) and through the Armenian Virtual Observatory will be our final product. The project is a combination of Byurakan traditional research with modern one, as well as a combination of modern technique with research methods and software, including Virtual Observatories.
Keywords: Markarain galaxies; active galactic nuclei; starburst galaxies; astronomical surveys; photometry; spectroscopy
