JENAM SPECIAL SESSION 3: Gravitational Wave Astrophysics

20-22 August 2007

Contact: Avetis Sadoyan (Armenia)

Gravitational wave observations have the potential to revolutionize our understanding of the Universe in a way not seen since Galileo first turned a telescope to the heavens. Behind Gravitational Wave detection great potential is an equally great challenge: what kind of astrophysical objects can contribute to GW radiation, what are main characteristics of Gravitational Waves expected on Earth, how from the myriad of sources whose signals overlap in the detectors data stream one can identify the source? The aim of this Symposium is to present and discuss the most recent results in the field of Gravitational Wave physics, and stimulate an exchange of ideas between astronomers, astrophysicists and GW scientists under the light of recent results from GW detectors.

SOC

Matthew Benacquista (USA, Co-chair), David Sedrakian (Armenia, Co-chair), Avetis Sadoyan (Armenia), Karen Shahabasyan (Armenia), Mekhak Hayrapetyan (Armenia).

Topics:

- Binary systems as sources of gravitational waves
- Asteroseismology: applications to Gravitational Waves
- Gravitational Wave Detection: ground based and space based missions
- Relativistic Cosmology
- Numerical Relativity
